Course Description: 

In this course, we have condensed our experience in making medical and scientific comics with the idea of providing you with a step by step method to guide you in making your own scientific comic. It is mainly a practical course, in which there are numerous intermediate exercises that will allow you to advance in the process. We will talk about the advantages of communicating science for researchers, the characteristics of comics as a science communication tool and you will learn the steps to create a science comic: context, key messages, visual metaphors, synopsis, script, sketch and the drawing basics.

About the Instructors: 

Miriam Rivera Iglesias is a science communicator specializing in the comic format. She is the creator of Biomiics Biology in comics. She has worked for organisations such as the EFSA  (European Food Safety Association) and King's College London. She is the Technical Secretary and Head of Communication of the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC) and a Collaborator with Illustraciencia and Scenio. Iglesias has a degree in Human Biology with a Masters in Science Communication.

Jesús Sánchez Ruiz is a researcher and scientific cartoonist. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has worked in laboratories at the National Biotechnology Centre (CNB), the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) and the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC). He is currently responsible for scientific projects at the CRIS Cancer Foundation as a Senior Collaborator.
